Program Overview

|
The College of Business Administration (COBA) at Missouri State University offers a two-year Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a general management focus. The MBA program is fully accredited by AACSB International–The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. COBA's MBA program is designed to provide students with the broad-based knowledge needed to succeed in the business world of today. Courses for the degree are taken in several departments and all courses are taught by faculty with the highest degree in their field. Many of the educators act as consultants to business and industry, ensuring that the curriculum remains connected to the global marketplace. The program consists of 24 credit hours of foundation/prerequisite courses in areas such as finance, management, accounting, marketing, information systems, organizational behavior and strategy. Following the foundation/prerequisite courses is an advanced core, which balances the technical and analytical side of business studies with an emphasis on organizational strategies and interpersonal skills. Supplementing the foundation/prerequisite and advanced core subjects is an innovative system of concentration. Students, with the agreement of the MBA program coordinator, may structure concentrations that best match their career objectives. Most courses used to fulfill the areas of concentration are business courses; however, students may pursue coursework in other departments to address specific interests. MBA students may choose from nearly 50 concentration courses available in COBA as well as from numerous graduate-level courses offered through other Missouri State departments. Research is an integral component of the curriculum. Students must complete either a research-oriented seminar or a thesis. All COBA students are expected to demonstrate research and writing proficiency appropriate to the business environment. There are currently 400 part- and full-time students enrolled in the MBA program. Students normally enter the COBA with two years of work experience.
